Martin Harris Winter Training: Faster and Safer Indoors? from NY Times today

I came across this in the New York Times this morning. We're lucky in California that we get pretty moderate weather year round (for the most part), though rain can really derail a trackie's riding in the fall, winter and spring, but what do others think of this?:

HELPING OR HURTING? Doing indoor training, unlike going outd

Martin Harris Page Translator Tool

SFTrackie's a bit of a technophobe. But I figured out how to view the foreign language website pages for the "sixes": click on the link for the website (there's a few on our main/home page); right-click on the foreign language website page; click on "Page Info"; then click on "Translate Page into English". Hey presto. Cool Euro track genuineness, and I can read it too.

I really liked this Opinion article from this week's SportsBusiness Journal, gets you thinking about why we do what we do.... Not a sports fan? Oh, the joy and pain you’re missing Published November 30, 2009 : Page 39 Bill Gates was taking questions at Microsoft headquarters from an audience of the company’s top female executives. The first question came from a woman who wanted to know how, with three young children, Gates was able to balance his personal and work lives. “Well, I don’t watch… Continue

Martin Harris No Track Awards in VeloNews' 22nd Annual Awards Issue??????

I just sent this to VeloNews, any thoughts anyone? Dear Editor, did I just miss something, perhaps I'm mistaken and my excitement over the rest of the great issue may have caused me to overlook it - but did I just see no track awards in VeloNews' 22nd Annual Awards issue???? or maybe my issue must have been missing those pages, that must be it, whew, just when I was thinking VeloNews doesn't care about track cycling in the US. Road, Mountain, and CycloCross awards, but no track awards!!!????… Continue

Martin Harris Well there you have it, way to go Taylor Phinneyl!

Well, there you go, another World's, and completely different results - countries that don't have huge huge dollars going into track programs as Great Britain (and believe me, I'm a Brit and a huge fan on Britain's track program and Manchester and all) are trouncing Britain's athletes. But come on US-powers-that-be, it's mindset! We have great and committed athletes, but they need support and encouragement, not bosses who say we're never going to get there. Look at Daniel Holloway and Shelley Ol… Continue

Martin Harris Can the U.S. track program ever grow to be an Australian track program? VN & PM

VeloNews has an interview with Pat McDonough, final question goes like this:

"VN: Can the U.S. track program ever grow to be an Australian track program?

PM: No. I say that because we aren't government funded, and they are extremely government funded. They have seven velodromes in their country and they are all owned and run by the government. That's never going to happen in this country, but we
