Martin Harris "Bicycle Dreams" Movie

Wow, just watched Bicycle Dreams, a great documentary about the (2008) RAAM, what a great piece of filmmaking, says a lot to all of us I think, can't recommend it highly enough; "entertaining" would be the wrong word for it, but raw, visceral, powerful, moving are more like it. It deserves all the awards it received. Check it out.

Martin Harris Revolution Season 8 well underway!!

Revolution 29, the first of this season's 4-event series, took place on October 23rd to a packed house, which saw Sir Chris in full Keirin flight. If you ever get chance to pop over the pond to take in this great event, do it, you won't be disappointed, the Brits (and Aussies and the other Europeans of course) know how to make a great track event happen and have fun at it, and Manchester's one great velodrome. And…

Martin Harris Book Recommendation: "Fixed - Global fixed-gear bike culture"

Hi all, wanted to recommend this great book I came across by Andrew Edwards and Max Leonard from Brighton UK I believe? It's wonderfully written, great historical narratives, but most of all many many great photos of the bikes we love to ride, bike shops that would pass for art galleries, and the all the signs of the passion and fun that make…

Martin Harris The great Gordon Singleton - check out this great video!

I tried to find this VIDEO on YouTube to post it in our videos section but couldn't find it, so I have to post it as a link instead, but don't miss it, it's just lovely, really captures the great Gordon Singleton, one of the nicest guys around as well as a great track champion (but what I think got me most about this video was the joy on Eddie Soens' face when Gordon won! (now there's another story - the great… Continue

Martin Harris Resource guide for all trackies, especially new ones, and a really good discussion on gearing...

Thanks to Dan Currell and the Minnesota track community (National Sports Center Velodrome) for the informative "Track Cycling - An Introduction: What a roadie needs to know to start racing on the velodrome".
An excellent resource guide for all track racers, and really good for feedback on gearing. (PDF)

This is pretty interesting - it was referred to in a New York Times article today:

As the most versatile and affordable option in the world of altitude fitness, it is perfect for personal trainer studios, individual homes as well as elite gyms and pro-sports teams. It consists of a hypoxic generator that emits hypoxic air to a…

Martin Harris Winter Training: Faster and Safer Indoors? from NY Times today

I came across this in the New York Times this morning. We're lucky in California that we get pretty moderate weather year round (for the most part), though rain can really derail a trackie's riding in the fall, winter and spring, but what do others think of this?:

HELPING OR HURTING? Doing indoor training, unlike going…

Martin Harris Page Translator Tool

SFTrackie's a bit of a technophobe. But I figured out how to view the foreign language website pages for the "sixes": click on the link for the website (there's a few on our main/home page); right-click on the foreign language website page; click on "Page Info"; then click on "Translate Page into English". Hey presto. Cool Euro track genuineness, and I can read it too.

Velonews and all are missing the boat show.

Martin Harris Not a sports fan? Oh, the joy and pain you’re missing - from Sports Business Journal 11/30/09

I really liked this Opinion article from this week's SportsBusiness Journal, gets you thinking about why we do what we do....

Martin Harris No Track Awards in VeloNews' 22nd Annual Awards Issue??????

I just sent this to VeloNews, any thoughts anyone?

Dear Editor,

did I just miss something, perhaps I'm mistaken and my excitement over the rest of the great issue may have caused me to overlook it - but did I just see no track awards in VeloNews' 22nd Annual Awards issue???? or maybe my issue must have been missing those pages, that must be it, whew, just when I was thinking VeloNews doesn't care about track cycling in the US.

Road, Mountain, and CycloCross… Continue
